PERSONALITY Atsushi is an eighteen year old boy with the power to transform into a massive weretiger. Despite his terrible, abusive childhood growing up in an orphanage, Atsushi remains a kind and selfless soul, going so far as to risk his own life to save others on a regular basis. His real faults lie with his own lack of self-esteem and confidence, and though he’s determined to live and prove his worth, we see him struggle to find his place in the world even after being accepted into the ADA. He believes that no one should ever have to suffer because of the power inside him, and often curses his past and the weretiger until he eventually comes to accept it as part of him. This doesn’t stop him from being cheerful and accepting of others, however, and he takes every chance he can get to enjoy life and all its simple pleasures (especially food).

ABOUT Atsushi is from a series called Bungou Stray Dogs, an anime/manga centered around those possessing supernatural powers called “abilities”. Atsushi’s ability is Beast Beneath the Moonlight, which allows him to transform into a massive weretiger. Most of the characters are named after various real-life authors, and their abilities are usually named after one of their works, but the connection ends there. APPEARANCE Atsushi is a young man with incredibly striking features. From his asymmetrical haircut, to the black stripe in his white hair, to the piercing mix of yellow and purple in his eyes, he certainly stands out in a crowd. The more of the weretiger’s power he taps into, the more feline his features become. ABILITIES Beast Beneath the Moonlight: Atsushi’s ability to turn into a massive white tiger. In the beginning he has little to no control over his transformations, but after joining the ADA and coming under the influence of the president’s ability All Men Are Equal, he’s able to transform different parts of his body at will to enhance their strength. So far we’ve seen him change his arms and legs to tiger limbs, and Atsushi’s facial features also tend to turn more feline while under the influence of the tiger. He can even summon a prehensile tail with an incredible strength of its own. Of course, he can also transform into the full tiger, but he seems to still have difficulty controlling the beast at its full strength, so he tends to stick with just the limbs during most confrontations. The weretiger also grants him regenerating capabilities. Atsushi has the ability to endure fatal wounds that would absolutely decimate a normal human being, such as his leg being severed from his body, being impaled several times over, being slammed into walls at high speeds, and enduring hits from other abilities. His ability to regenerate is also fairly rapid, allowing him to get up from near fatal blows in minutes. His severed leg was fully regrown overnight, good as new, much to everyone’s awe. However, despite this ability, he still bears several scars and burn marks from his childhood, so it’s unclear as to how scarring works with this ability. Atsushi is incredibly fast when under the influence of the weretiger, and at one point is able to keep up with a speeding minecart. His powerful limbs seems to be the source of his speed as well as his strength.
